An interview with Dr. Repic

What is your experience with international patients?
I had a lot of international patients during my professional work and I only had good experiences with them. They feel more engaged in the treatment.

What do you love about your job?
I love that I can help people improve their smile. There is no nicer feeling than the smile on the patient's face when he sees his new smile.

Why do you think international patients come to you?
We offer the same level of dental care as in western european countries, the doctors are well educated and the prices are much lower. Croatia is also a beautiful country so that the patients can enjoy beautiful weather, beaches and historic cities during their visit.

Can you tell us about a memorable treatment with which you helped to improve a patient's life?
We improve a patient ́s life in every treatment but one moment was particularly memorable. The patient had some ceramic bridges in the posterior region and he was so happy and thankful for being able to eat food properly.

An interview with Dr. Repic

What is your experience with international patients?
Our experience with international patients is very very positive. Everyone in our team has lived abroad so we have the communication skills and we have some perception in how to act and behave with foreign people. I found it easier to work with foreign people because they appreciate our work and I may say they come with low expectations so sometimes we surprise them in good way.

International patients are quite surprised with our equipment and dental service. This probably comes from their perception of our country. From my perspective it is easier to work with foreign patients because they have high standards and payment protocol is established in their minds. In Croatia domestic patients still have communistic perception of health standards. They find it hard to understand that standards of dental health have changed and that our country isn't wealthy enough to pay all dental service available at the market.

What do you love about your job?
The power of transformation! When some complicated patients come with strong will to change their dental health and willingness to transform their looks it is very easy to work with this kind of patients. Our practice is different from other practises because we have three doctors and two of them are highly specialized in the dental medicine field.

In this way we are able to provide highly specialized dental care from different dental points of view. For example: I can prepare patients during orthodontic treatment and prepare him/her to get better final dental work. Unfortunately this kind of approach isn't quite suitable for dental tourism field but we have the ability to offer higher dental care.

Why do you think international patients come to you?
What I find in common to all international patients is their willingness for thorough explanation of their dental problems and possible solutions. This I find as general as very good thing because in this way we can avoid all possible doubts or future problems in future dental work.

I think that international patients come to us because of a good ratio of quality and price of dental work. Basically they come because their health insurance does not cover quite expensive dental services. I can see this in particularly in patients who come from Switzerland and the UK. Mostly those are patients have Croatian background and have faith and trust in our health services as providers.

Can you tell us about a memorable treatment with which you helped to improve a patient's life?
Actually, I have one case that it is still going on. My basic background was academic researcher so during my time in University I started therapy with one very complicated patient. At the moment we have finished the first phase of treatment and know he is going towards the second phase of treatment. In this case, I have been working together with a professor from the USA, Dr. Nandakmuar Janakiraman.

I forwarded the complete treatment plan and patient progress to Dr. med Thomas Lietz, who is the Head of Clinical Affairs in Dentaurum because we are using their material. He was amazed with the results and offered cooperation with them. But, when I left University I needed to change my mindset and the best confirmation of my work came from this patients friend/acquaintance who saw him after 4 years and came to me with his son now needs dental treatment. Patient's friend is layman but he told me: You have done miracle! I must say I felt proud. Especially because this patient could have gone to other dentists who are closer than I am. I am planning to publish this case when it is complete.
