Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital, or GOP Hospital as it’s colloquially known, was first established in 1992 as one of the first private health facilities in Turkey. In 2014, it became the affiliated hospital of the Medical Faculty of Yeni Yuzyıl University, and is now formally known as Yeni Yüzyıl University Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital. GOP Hospital received ISO 9001 certification (an international quality management system) in 2007 and was classified a Class A Hospital under the Service Quality Standards in Health Industry established by the Ministry of Health. They’ve maintained this title by undergoing yearly assessments. In 2017, the hospital was also accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), a not-for-profit, private accrediting body that assesses whether an institution has met global industry standards.
GOP Hospital was built with earthquake-resistant smart building technology and features a central automation system as well as a patient transport system (medical evacuation helicopter landing pad). Since its opening, the doctors and surgeons of GOP Hospital have performed over 60,000 operations and delivered over 22,000 babies. The hospital has a 350-bed capacity and also provides guest houses for patients’ relatives who do not reside in Istanbul. There is a dedicated International Patients Department, assisting patients from abroad with services ranging from medical documentation for insurance to accommodation and transportation. GOP aims to make all patients “feel at home” as much as possible during their time at the hospital.

Dr. Cinpolat is a Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist at GOP Hospital.
What is your experience with international patients?
I have been working with international patients for many years and can speak English quite well.
What do you love about your job?
I love learning about new tech and teaching at GOP Hospital.
Why do you think international patients come to you?
Patients refer other patients to me as they state that I go out of my way to make sure a patient is followed up after surgery and when they return back to their country. Patients can always ask questions before and after their surgery and I want patients to know they are not alone, I’m with them every step of the way.
Can you tell us about a memorable treatment with which you helped to improve a patient's life?
Five years ago, I had a patient who was in a car accident and suffered a lot of scarring to her face. She had lost a part of her nose and a part of her eye lid. This patient had a series of reconstructive surgeries and finally was happy with what she looked like. This really touched me that we can make a difference in a women’s life when she had lost hope and shut the world off. This patient is now a teacher and is very happy with her life.
Dr. Ani Cinpolat graduated with her medical degree from Osmangazi University in 2004. She finished training in her plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic specialisation in 2011 at Akdeniz University in Antalya. Following a conscription to Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital in Adana, Turkey and an observership in London, England, Dr. Cinpolat began a fellowship at Prof. Dr. Ömer Özkan Clinic. During this fellowship, she was a member of the team that performed the first double arm transplant and first face transplant in Turkey as well as the world’s first uterine transplant from a deceased donor.
Dr. Cinpolat is a lecturer at Nisantasi Universityand working towards her PhD from İstinye University, both in Istanbul. GOP Hospital is located on the edge of the Gaziosmanpaşa district, on the European side of Istanbul. A developing working class district, it was named after an Ottoman field marshall, Gazi Osman Pasha (hence GOP), and has been the recent focus of urban transformation projects in Istanbul. Istanbul’s most well-known sites, such as the Bazaar District and Taksim Square, are within easy reach of the district.
