Buttock augmentations have increased in popularity in recent years and involves the use of implants or fat grafting to enhance the size and shape of the buttock for a natural appearance. It is also known to improve the balance of the figure for men and women for added volume. The implants are placed higher than the butt, which allows individuals to avoid sitting on the implants after the surgery is performed and continue sitting on their bone.

The average cost of the procedure is $4,000, which does not always include anesthesia or other expenses that are involved. Ideal candidates for the surgery are healthy adults who are over the age of 18 and have not achieved their desired results through exercise. Each patient must have realistic expectations of the results that will be attained and already have a buttock that is asymmetrical.

How Does a Buttock Augmentation Procedure Work?

Buttock augmentation surgery takes two to three hours to perform and involves making incisions on the top of each buttock. A silicone or saline implant that is made custom for the patient will be inserted into each buttock and is placed in or above the muscle. Layered sutures are then used to closed the incisions. The results are then noticeable immediately, but swelling will begin to decline in the next few weeks.

A consultation is first scheduled with the cosmetic surgeon to discuss the desired outcome and determine the size of implants that will be used. The physician will discuss different shapes that can be attained with the implants. The size, skin quality, and shape of the patients' buttocks will also need to be evaluated beforehand. Patients can prepare for the surgery by getting a blood test and by avoiding anti-inflammatory or pain relieving medications in the week leading up to the procedure. Patients can also expect the scars from the incisions to fade over time or remain discrete.

The recovery process of the surgery requires that the patient takes medication to increase how well the area heals and prevent an infection from developing. A support garment will need to be worn 24 hours a day to ensure that the desired results are attained. The final results will be visible after three months. The results of the butt implants are permanent and do not need to be adjusted or replaced in future years.
