The most popular types of breast implants are saline and silicone gel. Current research does not show a significant difference in safety between saline and silicone implants. All implants have the potential to rupture. A saline implant rupture is obvious and does not pose a health risk since the body reabsorbs the saline. A ruptured silicone gel implant is harder to spot. The silicone remains in the body and can spread to nearby lymph nodes.
