Liposculpture is a modern cosmetic procedure designed to beautify the female or male physique. Physical change is made possible through the proven method of liposuction, which literally "sucks" away unsightly areas of fat from the body.

Liposuction is a technique that has been used for decades to help men and women achieve greater contour in their bodies. Liposculpture refines this principle by concentrating on the removal of smaller amounts of cellulite that often accumulate between muscles and the skin that covers them. The portions of the body that are most susceptible to this condition include the abdominal area, the thighs and underneath the chin. Although liposculpture should not be considered as a method of dealing with obesity, it can be used to supplement a weight loss program. Used in such a manner, this technique can give your body a toned and even an athletic look, in the process improving your self-image.

How Does Liposculpture Work?

Liposculpture can normally be performed on an outpatient basis, although an overnight stay in the hospital may be necessary in some rare instances. Unless the patient has a known propensity to bleeding or is taking an anticoagulant medication, the preparatory steps will be minimal. Although some patients are placed under general anesthesia, liposculpture treatment normally requires the use of only a local anesthetic to relieve pain. The fat will be removed through a small tube, known as a cannula, which is inserted into the area being treated. The average treatment session takes about an hour. Patients occasionally elect to undergo liposculpture in conjunction with breast augmentation or some other cosmetic procedure.

A certain amount of bruising and swelling is common after the treatment, with complete recovery taking from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. You can also expect to take at least a week out of your normal routine, including work, and you will be asked to refrain from vigorous exercise for a period of time. You may also be asked to wear a compression garment during the period of recovery. The average cost of liposculpture treatment is around $5,000, which puts it roughly in line with conventional liposuction. Liposculpture is most beneficial to men and women who are not excessively overweight and who have skin that is elastic enough to compensate for the reduction in fat. For those of you who fall into this category, liposculpture can make you look better to others and feel better about yourself.
