Don't use aspirin for the 3 days before the operation.
Don't drink alcohol 1 day before the operation.
Stop smoking 2 days before the operation.
If you are allergic to any drugs, please inform your doctor during the consultation.
If you're taking medications for chronic illnesses or if you have any other health conditions, inform the clinic beforehand (diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, tuberculosis, HIV, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C).
Bring comfortable button-down shirts or sweatshirts.
Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
Post-op care package provided for the first few days after surgery:
Antibiotics (Cefaks 500)
Anti-swelling and anti-oedema (Prednol 16)
Keep your skin dry to allow the skin to heal, especially on the first day.
Sleep in a semi-upright position for the first 3 nights after surgery. Use pillows and/or neck pillows to elevate your head so help prevent excess swelling.
Keep the area around your scalp clean throughout your recovery. Refrain from putting anything on your scalp that hasn’t been approved by your surgeon.
There will be a certain amount of itchiness and scarring for which you can apply the antibiotic topical cream your surgeon supplies. This will help prevent infection and reduce scalp irritation and swelling.
Try to take time off from work, especially if you have a job that requires physical activity.
You will do your wash at the clinic 2 days after the surgery. You should then wash your hair one day after that initial wash to remove any more dead skin and clean the scabs around the hair grafts. This helps prevent the scabs from damaging the hair follicles and hindering hair growth.
Follow the directions for how to wash your hair with the provided shampoo. The shampoo will need to be applied to the donor and grafted areas.
Do not drink alcohol for the first 5 days after the surgery. This can interfere with the blood supply to the head.
Do not smoke for 1 month after the surgery. This can also interfere with the blood flow to your hair follicles and blood flow is crucial for hair growth.
Do not expose your scalp to direct sunlight for the first few days after the surgery, especially if it’s swollen. If you have to go outside in the sun, you can wear a hat after 1 week.
Do not touch or fidget with your transplanted grafts. Itching and soreness are normal side effects but picking or rubbing at a sore scalp may result in grafts falling out before they can grow.
Do not exercise or play sports for 1 week after surgery. You can resume low-exertion exercise 10 days after surgery. Any contact sports (basketball, soccer) or heavy lifting (bodybuilding) are prohibited for 2.5 - 3 months.
Do not have sex for the first 10 days after surgery.
Do not engage in activities that cause excessive sweating, such as a steam bath or sauna, for at least 2 months after the surgery. Sweating increases the risk of infection.
