Bariatric surgery or weight-loss surgery helps patients with extreme obesity to lose weight. There are various types of weight-loss surgeries in which the surgeon makes changes to the stomach or intestine or both in order to restrict the intake of food. The surgery is recommended only when patients have tried non-surgical methods of weight-loss such as a change of diet and regular exercise, and they have failed to see results. At Qunomedical we partner with the most experienced surgeons around the world. These specialists perform weight-loss surgery for up to 80% less than the average cost in the U.K., U.S., and Australia. The cost of the treatment depends on the general health of the patient as this will determine the type and complexity of the procedure. After examining your medical history the specialist will provide you with a treatment plan and price quote. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of surgeons, many of whom attained their medical qualifications from UK and US medical schools, have won awards, and are members of prestigious associations.

How Does Weight-Loss Surgery Work?

The most common types of weight-loss or bariatric surgery are: gastric band surgery, in which an inflatable silicone device is placed around the top of the stomach; Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, in which part of the stomach is closed off and attached to a part of the small intestine called the jejunum; gastric sleeve surgery, in which a patient’s stomach is reduced to 15% to 25% of its original size. In order to lose weight and keep it off patients must be prepared to make drastic changes to their lifestyle following the surgery, such as eating several small meals a day and getting regular exercise. As there are still risks associated with these surgeries, they are only recommended for patients who are morbidly obese with a BMI of 40 or higher and haven’t seen results from diet and exercise, as well as those with a BMI of 35-40 who have health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea or osteoarthritis. Potential candidates must fully understand the risks associated with weight-loss surgery and be committed to changing their lifestyle if they decide to undergo one of the procedures.
