Pose 2

The POSE 2 procedure is an endoscopically implemented reduction of the size of the stomach. It is an effective weight-decreasing treatment for patients who are anywhere between moderately to severely overweight. Subsequent weight loss ultimately occurs due to the lower sense of hunger that comes from having a significantly smaller stomach. To achieve this, the stomach wall is folded and then sutured; the lack of visible scars is a huge advantage of the POSE 2 procedure.

Am I suitable for the POSE 2 procedure?

Have you already tried many different diets, but struggled to maintain the progress you made through them? The POSE 2 procedure is a permanent way of optimally supporting your weight loss. This method of stomach size-reduction makes you feel full up faster, causing you to naturally reduce your portions for every meal.

What Are the Advantages of the POSE 2 Procedure?

The POSE 2 procedure has gained a significant amount of popularity over the past few years, thanks to its fast healing process, lifelong effect and absence of scarring. Most of our patients also greatly appreciate that they were able to carry on with their everyday lives after just a few days. The fact that only minimal pain follows the procedure also stands in favour of getting the POSE 2 procedure.

How Does the POSE 2 Procedure Work?

The minimally invasive POSE 2 procedure aims to reduce the stomach’s size by 70%, thereby permanently taking up most of the feeling of being full.

To best prepare for the procedure, you are only allowed liquid food the day before. However, on the day of the procedure itself, the stomach must be completely empty. Shortly before commencing, the anaesthetist will give a rundown of the general anaesthesia and clarify the risks involved. Then, your surgeon will conduct a gastroscopy to make sure your stomach is healthy and ready for the procedure.

The first step is for the surgeon to run an endoscope into the stomach (similar to the gastroscopy) and place little anchors along the stomach wall so that it can be folded and then sutured, which is how it becomes considerably smaller. Once this is done, just 30% of your stomach capacity is left over, which is what causes you to want to eat much less.

Thanks to the general anaesthesia, you will be unconscious for the hour-long procedure and therefore won’t feel a thing. If you have any concerns before the procedure, talk to your surgeon about them; they can answer any questions in detail, as well as dispel any prior anxiety you might be feeling.

Cost of a POSE 2 Procedure

It’s not easy to directly pinpoint how much a POSE 2 procedure would cost, since price is affected not just by your own personal requirements but also by the doctor and clinic you choose for your treatment. We’d be happy to talk you through your individual options - get in touch with us anytime!

Will My Insurance Pay for My POSE 2 Procedure?

Unfortunately, health insurance won’t pay for POSE 2 treatment. Contact your insurance about alternative procedures such as a gastric bypass, balloon or sleeve, as these are sometimes covered by insurance policies.

The Post-POSE 2 Procedure Period

Most of the time, you’re able to leave the clinic on the same day as the procedure, though occasionally patients are advised to stay a night.

Over the ensuing three weeks, only liquid food can be consumed. This allows your stomach to heal properly without the added stress of having to digest solid food. You will also be provided with a nutritionist, who will support you with appropriate dietary recommendations.

After six months there will usually be a check-up to determine whether your stomach has responded well to the procedure.
