More and more people travel far afield to get a treatment done and it’s no surprise: many clinics and hospitals globally allow to save up to 80% on a medical treatment, while still relying on the best quality out there. Why not use this as an opportunity to take in the sights your destination has to offer?
This is the first of a series of city guides that combine travel and leisure with the most popular treatments and clinics Qunomedical has to offer.
Home to most mosques in Turkey, Istanbul’s ancient history dates back to the seventh century BC, when it was originally founded by the Greeks.
Ranked 6th in the list of the world’s most populated cities, Istanbul is a booming city that straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. The city’s long history lies around every corner and its magnificent architecture reflects the different cultural influences that once glorious empires left behind.
Cultural crossroads. Istanbul has been home to several settlements during the past hundreds years and its multicultural feeling has a strong presence everywhere. İstiklal Street, in the Beyoğlu district, is Istanbul’s most active street and the perfect place where you find a great mixture of modern and traditional cafés and boutiques. While the street is busy at every hour of the day, you can find some peace of mind by visiting one of the churches or mosques along the street, as Hüseyin Ağa Camii Mosque, the Catholic Church of Santa Maria Draperis or the church of S. Antonio di Padova.
Bargain hunting. You can’t visit Istanbul without stopping by the Grand Bazaar, one of the world’s largest covered markets where more than 5,000 shops attract thousands of visitors every day. Located in the district of Fatih, the Grand Bazaar has plenty to offer: from jewellery to Turkish ceramics and textiles, chances are high you find your little treasure to bring back home. Bargain is the name of the game here!
Museum city. What better way to discover a city’s history and traditions? Istanbul offers more than 20 museums to get to know its culture and art; besides the long-established Istanbul Archaeology Museums - where large collections of Turkish, Hellenistic and Roman artifacts are collected - you can explore Turkey’s vibrant art scene at the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art and 19th-century Orientalist paintings and ceramics at the Pera Museum.
The vaccinations to consider before going to Turkey are those for typhoid fever and hepatitis A and B, though they are recommended only if traveling away from the frequently travelled routes. Also make sure your tetanus- diphtheria-polio vaccination is updated. Consider discussing your options with your doctor 4 to 6 weeks before traveling anyway.
Food hygiene standard is usually high in Istanbul, though we still recommend you take care with personal, food and water hygiene. You may also want to choose bottled water over tap water as, although chlorinated, it is still not guaranteed to be safe (bottled water can be found anywhere and it’s cheap).

Istanbul boasts a cheap and efficient public transport system, which includes tram, metro and bus; there is also a ferry that travels along the Bosphorus strait and that connects the Asian and European shores. All our clinics are a 25-minute drive from Istanbul’s downtown and main attractions, though when getting to the city center, use only the local transportation as parking can get both difficult and expensive.
