Going abroad for dental treatment is the best way to save money on dentistry that’s going to completely rejuvenate your smile. What’s important is to find a professional whose expertise you can trust. Dent Glow in Izmir, Turkey, is one such clinic where experienced dentists handle various procedures - crowns, veneers, implants and more; all the popular procedures that straighten and brighten up patients’ teeth.
The experts at Dent Glow have shared a few insights with us, putting together a clear overview of teeth restoration and shedding some light on the concerns patients might have before getting theirs done.
How has modern medical technology made dentistry more comfortable for patients?
Thanks to 3D imaging, the hard tissues in the jaw and the damage caused by infections in them can be easily seen and measured before starting surgical procedures. In this way, the accuracy is quite high during the pre-process planning. Shaping soft tissue with dental laser devices is fast and doesn’t cause bleeding, so a much more beautiful smile is possible by improving the soft tissue’s aesthetics.
Additionally, digital measurements can be taken from the patient using an intraoral scanner in the clinic, thus the errors that can be made by human hands are cancelled out. On the other hand, our laboratory team is also able to design a special smile on the patient's face on the screen of this digital measurement device. The design is produced by engraving zircon blocks on CAD/CAM devices. Therefore, not only does the margin of error decrease, but the production speed also increases. A prosthesis that could be produced in ten days with classical methods can now be delivered to the patient in five days.
What’s the Difference Between Crowns and Veneers, and How do You Know Which One to Recommend?
Especially if there is a lot of damage such as caries, breaks or cracks in the front teeth, and if there is a higher loss of the natural tissue of the tooth, we want to protect them by covering them with zirconium crowns. In addition, we may have to file the tooth down a lot in very crowded teeth structures; in this case, we prefer to make veneers because the loss of natural tissue would otherwise increase again. If the implant cannot be placed in the missing tooth areas, we prefer a zirconium bridge by filing down the neighbouring teeth. Laminate veneers are applied on less damaged, worn or minimally rotten and/or slightly crowded teeth.
When Should a Patient Consider Implants, and What is the Recovery Process Like?
In cases where there is a lot of bone loss around the teeth, one should not insist that the tooth remain in the mouth. The longer the tooth remains, the more bone resorption increases, and it becomes more difficult to place the implant. If many of the teeth are missing and if they’re not strong enough for a fixed prosthesis, we recommend implant treatment. If patients have or will have a removable prosthesis, we prefer to support them with implants for more comfortable usage.
Recovery usually occurs within one to two weeks. During this period of recovery, patients should protect themselves by avoiding hard foods and ones with thermal or chemical (acidic, lemon, vinegar, cola, soda) effects. We use dissolvable stitches, which dissolve within an average of five weeks. Starting four days after the operation, the stitches should be gently cleaned with a soft brush.
How do you put anxiety patients at ease?
Patients in this situation begin to relax when they trust the clinic and their doctor. In simple cases, patients can relax with herbal relieving medications. However, in order to perform operations on people with advanced anxiety, it is necessary to perform sedation and general anaesthesia applications in a hospital environment.
What must patients do or avoid immediately after their cosmetic procedure?
If gingivectomy treatment has been performed on the gum, soft and gentle brushing should be done for the first three days, and hard food should be avoided. Especially in laminate veneer treatments, patients should chew slowly with small bites until they get used to the teeth. In composite laminate treatments, they should avoid eating excessive colouring-based foods for three weeks. In general, they should definitely use the mouthguard provided by the clinic until they get used to their new circumstances. If they clench or grind their teeth too much, they should have botox treatment for their jaw muscles.
