HOW DOES IT WORK?
  1. Initial consultation
Before you decide to go ahead with the procedure, it is vital to sit down with your surgeon and discuss any question you may have and to decide your eligibility for the transplant. This can be done in person, or you can also send in pictures of your scalp (top, front, left, right, back). You should also have your medical history ready, for example - current conditions you may have, medications/supplements you take and the timeline of your hair loss. This helps the surgeon decide the best course of action for your particular case.

  2. Medical tests
Prior to the surgery, you will be required to undergo blood tests to make sure you are in good health and do not have any infectious diseases.

  3. DHI procedure

  4. Before the anaesthesia and implantation, your surgeon will draw your new hairline on your scalp based on your goals and the quality and amount of hair available in your donor area. You will receive local anaesthesia on your donor area. On special request, general anaesthesia/sedation is also possible. After the anaesthesia has taken effect, the surgeon will start extracting the hair manually, one-by-one, using punches with diameter <=1 mm from the donor area.

In the DHI technique, the hair is then immediately implanted into the recipient area using a special implanter tool known as a Choi Implanter Pen. With this method, there is no need for canal opening prior to implantation and the hair does not remain outside the body for very long. The Choi Implanter allows the surgeon more control over the angle, direction and depth of the hair transplantation and hence results in a more natural look.

What should I expect from this procedure?

Following your surgery, you will have a post-op consultation where your surgeon will discuss the aftercare with you, clear any doubts and answer any of your question. You will often receive a post-op package containing all the necessary shampoos or medication that will be needed following the surgery.

It is important to keep in mind, that results do not show up immediately and it takes around 6 months for full results to be visible. Bear in mind that anywhere between weeks 2-8 you will undergo ‘shock loss’ where most of your transplanted hair will fall out. This is a normal part of the process. The hair will grow back gradually, both in the recipient as well as the donor areas.

Lastly, do not compare your results to those of others. The final results on the procedure depend greatly on your prior hair/hairline. Additionally, recovery is a gradual process and different for every individual, based on your medical history and current health and surrounding environmental conditions. Make sure to adhere to your surgeon’s advice and follow-up with them in case of any complications.

Don't think twice!

I waited 12 months to write this review, so that I could actually comment on my experience as well as my results, and I can say that both are AMAZING! I went to DHI Tijuana for the first time in early 2018 after a friend recommended that place to me and after trying everything (and I mean every non invasive hair treatment I could find). Needless to say, none of these had worked. After my initial consultation in DHI Mexico, I left feeling very confident about what the team there explained, assuring me that they use the most advanced technique & technology. their prices are much cheaper than having it done in the USA so I decided to go forward with the procedure shortly after. On the day on my procedure, the quality of service I received was exceptional...the staff catered to all my needs, and everyone was very patient and caring through every step. 6-7 months after my procedure, my expectations were not only met, but surpassed. I couldn't be more thankful with all the DHI staff for giving me my hair back, and would recommend this to anyone! Don't think twice!
